Renovation Project of The Nile Beth Israel Messianic Congregation

The Nile Beth Israel Messianic Congregation

Shalom! I’m very delighted to give you an update on the final  stages  of renovation  in the  inside of   the Nile Beth Israel Messianic Congregation in Borongole , South Sudan.  We are blessed and encouraged by the financial support from the body  of Christ across the USA to Operation Nehemiah to help restore this ancient church building .  As Prophet Isaiah 58: 12  says ” Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age-old foundations; And you will be called the repairer of the breach, The restorer of the streets in which to dwell.”

Last November , as we prepared to leave for the States, I got together with the pastor and the elders of the congregation  and prayed to God. ” Lord thank you for answering our prayers from last year. You have renovated your house of worship and brought your people from exile to worhip you in it,   in truth and Spirit. Now, dear Lord grant us the resources to complete the renovation of the builidng. We need doors, windows, pulpit and the inside walls and floor to be renovated.”    The Lord answered  this prayer already since we came back  because upon my return to the States, I consultated with the Samaritan Purse and raised the  fund needed to do the job. This is the result of that prayer as you can see in the picture. The doors and the window are fixed, the floors and walls are plastered  and the pulpit is built. Painting is going on.  May His name be praised.

Since the first and the second world wars, plus two Sudaneses civil wars, this building has stood  its ground. Islamic regimes in the north one after another tried to destroy it many times but it remains in place upto now. For  25 years the building was deserted as the civil war raged in the South Sudan. Khartoum Islamic army destroyed and ripped off the, door, the roofs and the windows of the buildings in Borongole,  but this particular building along with  others have withstood the test of times and survived destruction throughout the time of war  when the people of the South Sudan went into exile.  Even though the door, the roofs and windows were destroyed, the rest of the structures remained in place.

After 20 years in exile, the Lord opened the door for me and a team of Operation Nehemiah  to return to my village in Beth Israel, South Sudan.  In January 2004, we made the first expeditionary journey back  to the South Sudan to survey the damage and the  destruction which the Islamic regime had carried out in our village and the surrounding  communities.  The path to our  village went directly through Borongole where these ancient remain of buildings are situated. The whole area was overgrown with bushes and forests. We had to  burn and slashed our way through the bushes to get into Borongole and then to my village.

Upon our arrival in Borongole, we found trees had grown inside the buildings,  animals were  living inside, dusts were everywhere  and the whole place which was one time,  back in the 80s  bustling with lives and activities was reduced to wilderness.  Right then, the Lord put a burden in my heart to do something about those buildings.  One of them was a church building and the rest were offices.

I returned back to the States and alerted our supporters to help Operation Nehemiah raise money to renovate two of those buildings of which one will be restored as a church and the other one one will be restored as a Mission house.   In consultation and approval from  Magwi County Commissioner, Mr. Emilio Iga, I was given the go ahead to renovate two of the buildings for Operation Nehemiah Missions. The renovation on the mission house began in the middle of 2005 and we finished most of the essential structure at the end of 2005.   I left my brothers Michael  Joseph  Levi and Dr. Minda Godwin along with 10 volunteer staff to carry on with the rest of the work and continue to build Nehemiah clinic. We envisioned to build a Mission house, a church and a field clinic this compound.

In 2005 -2006, we began the construction of the  Nehemiah field clinic from scratch and  we completed its construction under the leadership of Dr. Luka Gobi Benson and Dr. Mindra Godwin. We  installed solar energy to power the facility.  As for the renovation of the church,  all  this time,  the Lord had wanted us to be patient  and wait for a while as the region was still desolate without the people. Most people who came during this time were miltiary and transient. . They did not come to stay permanently. He knews what was  needed to be done first.  So the Mission House was the ideal place  for  Operation Nehemiah to take root and prepare the groundwork for the community to return.  Therefore we had to put aside  our primary goal to renovate the church building.  The clinic was next.

In September  2006,  Engineer  David Firth and I went to Borongole  and with support of the Joseph Levi, Operation Nehemiah’s former field director,  we managed to installed  the Nehemiah Trumpet Call radio station inside the Mission House and dedicated it to the Lord. The  Radio station was  critical because we were able to broadcast the Gospel and get the Good news out to the returnees and the army who were moving back and forth between the Sudan and Uganda.

In January 2005, we witnessed the historic signing of the  Sudan’s comprehensive peace agreement between the north and the South. The war officially came to an end.  In 2007 – 2008  most people in my village returned from exile and the community was ready to  have a house of worship and a pastor to shepherd the flock.  Up to this point, we conducted worhip services under the trees and we did not have a functioning  pastor to take care of the church.  In June 2008, I returned to the Sudan and had Elder Michael Levi ordained as the pastor of the Nile Beth Israel Messianic Congregation.

I remembered, before I left for the States,  I met with the Pastor Michael and the elders of  the congregation and prayed over this last church building which was still standing without the roofs and windows or doors. We prayed ”  Lord, now the time has come. Your people have returned from exile to their homeland. We want to dedicate them to your service and cleanse this land with the blood of Jesus. Not that we needed a building to worship you or to please you.  We are the temple of the living God .  We, your  people are the true temple  if we  treasure your words in our hearts and abide by them.  We asked the Lord , if it pleases you and if this is the time , please  grant us the resources to restore this building to serve as the house of worship for all people where your name will be lifted on high  and praised.

Upon my returned to the States,  the Lord opened the door for the renovation of the church building to go forward. Several churches along with Samaritan Purse came to our support.  The Lord used them to put the first seed  money to  help Operation Nehemiah renovate the church building. In Jan 2009, we secured the fund to renovate the roof of the bulidng. In March, 2009, the project was done.  Right after that we received a lot of pews from Grace Congregational church for the believers to sit on during the worship times.   The pews took  three months to arrive from the USA.

In November 2009, my family made historic mission trip to  the South Sudan to oversee the on going work in the field. Upon our arrival,  and during the time we spent there, we witnessed what the Lord is doing  in the church and in the lives of  His people. Hundreds of people were giving their lives to Jesus. We witnessed the baptism of 58 people, we  conducted four marriages and dedicated 27 children to the Lord. The church has grown to more than a thousand people worshiping the Lord   every week.  Again, we realized that the Lord answered our prayers a year prior asking him to fill his house with worshippers who will worship him in Spirit and Truth.  We saw the arrival of the pews in the container from the USA  and the congregation burst into joy and appreciation as they unload the pews from the container and  fill the church with them.

Nehemiah Trumpet Call Gospel radio Project is now 100 % Complete

Shalom!  I’m very excited and equally blessed  to report to you that finally  Operation Nehemiah has completed its detailed engineering  and spiritual procurement of the Nehemiah Boardcasting Radio Station. It was a labor of love and tenacity from all the brethren.  Project started in July of 2007 and completed in March 2010.  ”For they all put their hand together  for this good work” Nehemiah 2:18b

Nehemiah Trumpet Call 97.3 FM is now completed and  operating from the big tower on Gordon Mountain  in Nimule , 24 miles from the studio .  This is a dream coming true and prayer answered.  Back in 2007,   when  the Lord gave me the vision to build the 300ft radio tower on Gordon Mountain to improve the coverage  in the region as we were anticipating for the return of millions of South Sudanese  from exil,    I  knew right then, we needed a spot  on a  high elevation  right on  the border with Uganda so that the Gospel will reach as far as 80 -90  miles deep into Gulu, Uganda and  as far as 80- 90  miles deep into Juba, in the South Sudan. The Lord laid a plan in my heart to take on Gordon Moutain and secure the spot for the service of the Lord. It is the most strategic spot for a a radio tower.  We prayed about it and asked the Lord to provide Operation Nehemiah Missions with a piece of land at the peak of the Gordon Mountain.  We  received the answer to that prayer and with the blessing of  Commissioner Emilio Iga and Nimule Payam Administrator,  Mr. Richard Moses, we were able to secure 75mx 75 m land on the peak of Gordon Moutain.  The next step was the fund.  In consultation with VCY America,  Brother Vic Eliason  whole heartly agreed to  help us fund the project.  He went ahead and  committed to raising $65,000 to build the tower as the first step to implement the rest of the project.  We contracted Rotex Construction company in Kampala, Uganda  to build the tower.   In  July 2007 ,  Rotex began the construction of the tower and by October 2007, the tower project was brought to a completion.  The Lord took us step by step to lay the blue print for the radio equipment needed to control the broadcast from studio 24 miles away.  To implement the idea, with the support of our ground team,  we did the topographic  feature of the region and reported to   Engineer David Casement of Galcom and Engineer David Firth of BFO.  They  both recommended , that we will need a -6- bay antenna, solar power and  STL studio which will be ideal for such as a plan.  We secured the frequencies for the STL studios and  purchased  a 6-bay antenna.  From that point on,  Engineer took over the project  and oversaw its completion. We all worked together to see this project through.

This has been labor of love tenacity, faithfulness and determination from all of us who have been deeply involved since 2007 to ensure that improvement of the station from the small station to the big one goes smoothly.

Our deep appreciation goes to VCY America and Crosstalk  http://www.vcyamerica.org/ for underwriting  and  funding  the entire tower  construction project , the equipment,  fencing  the property around the tower, constructing the building to facilitate the equipment  on the tower site and to provide off the grid stand alone solar energy to power the station. We want to thank God for Engineer David Firth and his wife Judith  for their  dedication  in overseeing stage by stage process in completing this critical project for spreading the Gospel throughout  the Sudan and Uganda. We could not be thankful enough for our ground leadership team headed by Pastor Michael Levi . They have been isntrumental  in conducting daily boardcasting from the small Studio and overseeing various projects which were all connected together to bring this  big station to a successful ending . I would also want to thank the  board of elders of Operation Nehemiah for their prayers and support.

Our studio is stationed in Borongole,  24 miles north of the big tower  at the Missions’ headquaters.  Broadcasting is done from the STL studio situated right inside the Beth Israel Mission house in Borongole.  An STL transmitter sends  messages from  the studio  to an STL antenna  mounted  midway on the 300 ft  tower 24 miles away.

The  STL  antenna  then transfer the messages to an STL Receiver connected to   a 250 watt Transmitter house inside the transmission building on the mountain  which  receive the signal and transfers the message to a 6 - bay antenna mounted on top of the 300ft tower. Once the 6- bay anntena receives the messages from the 250 watt transmitter,  it amplifies the signal to 8000 watt and  sends it to 97.3 FM frequency on which you can hear the Nehemiah Trumpet Call Gospel Radio over the air waves of Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria,  State South Sudan.  According to Engineer David Firth, who oversaw the completion of the  project,  the Broadcasting signal can be heard as far as Gulu, Uganda. Gulu is 90 miles  from the Station and in Juba 90 miles north of the station.   The station will cover most of Eastern and Central Equatoria  States, Northern, east and western Uganda. There are over  4-5 Million people residing in these region.

Our prayers is that the Good News will go out and  many people  will hear it and many of them will get saved and  live for Jesus.
